In the Actor's Studio with Anthony Hopkins

Anthony Hopkins can be an intimidating presence. Then again, his easy child like laughter, lighting up his high rounded cheekbones, can catch you by surprise you.
I love watching interviews, especially of actors. Art is magic and and the artist is the magician, and we the audience, are held spellbound as we are transported into a different world, we never knew could exist.
Among many of my favourite actors, Tony, as he is affectionately known, is one of the most formidable presence in Hollywood and across the globe.
I think its his eyes - steely, probing, capable of instilling fear, brave, and yet affectionate.
He is a confessed alchoholic, reformed now.
An excellent pianist, he sufferred from dyslexia as a child. He turned to art for a living and the rest as they say, is history.
His favourite curse word: ****
What turns him on? His wife, and everything about life
What turns him off? Bad behaviour on the sets
What profession would he like to pursue other than acting? Pianist
What profession would he never like to pursue? A restuarant business
What would he like God to tell him when he arrives at the Pearly Gates? I told you, so! You will be ok.
His advise to upcoming actors: Surrender yourself. You are powerless. Go with the flow and give yourself to life.
His preparation for his roles: Does not believe in rehearsals, reads his lines, and take the first shot directly in front of the camera.
You are lucky if you are in the company of actors, who can make it easy for you. Some actors struggle to get there.

I dont try, I am just there. The audience cries for me, like my character, Steve, the Butler, in the Remains of the Day.

Yes, that's right. We cry for the actor. The actor for their part, merely enacts the role. And that is powerful.

It is through us, they live.
