The Days!

The prominence of old age homes, where either parents voluntarily settle in or are forced to settle in is a shameful fact, made hideous by the celebration of Mother's Day, Father's Day and every other day you can possibly think of!

Today it has become a fad, a marketing gimmick, and a money making venture. "On Mother''s day, treat your mother to a special dinner on the rooftop..show her you care"...whatever. There are a million ways to show your family you really mean well and genuinely love them. You do it by simply being there for them, hearing them out, and by spending quality time, not by treating them to expensive night outs or evenings, though that is nice too. But at the end of the day, everyone wants the warmth of the human touch, that comfort, knowing that your son or daughter will be there for you no matter what happens and having a peaceful sleep. In the end, that's all that counts.

Anyway, you don't need to earmark a day to celebrate your parents or your spouse. Is it diificult to take over and plan a surprise? Cmon, we have time to travel the world, but no time for our own family..think about it!

I actually don't mind special days (Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentine's Day etc). True, you don't need one particular day to show your loved one how special he/she is. Every day can be special. But I don't mind one day in a day when it can be extra special, with all the extravaganzes thrown in:))
However, relationships aren't all abt the expensive dinners and presents. All of that falls flat, without the human touch. That we need all round the year.
On a totally unrelated note, Rohit and I want to end up in an old age home together with our friends. That will ensure we have a support system that takes care of us, emotionally and physically. We don't want to depend on our kids, and we certainly don't want to live alone. So we're going to live with friends (call it and old-age home cum resort) and have fun!:))
