Give Me A Break, Will Ya?

If you watch small screen soaps, you will observe that for any given shot, all the characters come heavily painted. The context of the character in the serial is of no consequence here. The protagonist always stands apart from the other extras, be it clothing, character or make up. Atleast that seems to be the case with the Heriones'! Men usually get away with a smattering of light compact and so it doesn't really show. But with women, the story is quite different.
Let me give you a few examples:
If the lady is jailed, she gets to wear neact cottons while th rest of crew, other convicts come dressed in plain white sarees with no make up.
You sleep withe the make up and wake up with it. Kya Hoga Nimmo Ka is one such soap. Nimmo is always heavily colored irrespective of the time of day. And her acting skills are even terrible. Kids can do better.
Nimmo is all dressed to go to work. When her friend arrives to get her, she informs her father and leaves for work, coolly walking out of the door. No bag, purse, none whatsoever. One would think that she is going for a walk in the park. Give me a break.
The do-gooder that she is, her brilliant plan to unite her love and former contract husband, Kunanl with his former love, Natasha, is by pretending to love him and then break his heart. So that Kunal dear realises how much Natasha means to him. Duh!
Indian soaps mostly revolves around the women folk or a woman , who shoulders the family responsibilities, while sacrificing her own happiness. It is weepy and gets weepier when a huge calamity hits the family usually in the form of a villian who threatens thier virginity or some egoistic male who is after the woman's mangal sutra.
So one would think that in India atleast, men are male chavunistic egoistic pigs and women are always a battered lot. While the outside worls is busy planning a life on the moon. Grow up!
A storm in the woman's life is usually depicted with the lamps going off and the kumkum falling to the floor. The mangalsutra sentiment reigns heavy. The poor inidan reformers wouldn't know what hit them!
Accepted, these soaps are meant for entertaining the masses while spreading the message of family love, brotherhood and sacrifice, but can we keep it closer to the real picture? Atleat use makeup where it is necessary, not when you step out of the shower with dry hair, and not when you wake up...get the drift guys?

IMHO, the TV is a complete waste of time. atleast, in most homes, thats how it is.
talking about soaps - have always wondered what it is that keeps viewers glued to them. u shud watch some of the tamil soaps - women are portrayed so badly. they are scheming, vile, jealous...full of negative emotions...
just curious - why on earth do u watch all the crap and then rant about it? :)
